review 1: Åsne Seierstad has done a really good job writing about something so sad and raw. I've always been interested in the minds of "monsters", people who commit despicable crimes. Seierstad provides very few definitive answers on how he grew up to be who he is today. But Anders Behring Breivik is not a monster. He was and remains one of us. I especially liked one little piece of dialogue between some policeman and Behring Breivik where he hopefully says, "You must think I'm some kind of a monster." "No, I think you are a human being."Seierstad writes in a way that is very emotional and bound to make you feel very deeply, almost live through the horrors that are impossible to imagine. The chapter about the day of the shootings, is something very well written. It did cross my m... moreind that Seierstad must've sometimes imagined what someone who knows he is going to die, is thinking but it didn't matter. Most of the writing is stuff told by the survivors. Survivors who I have nothing but empathy, respect and compassion. The beginning, telling the story of young Behring Breivik who tried to fit in but failed, was interesting too. It is easy to blame WoW, the internet communities, his childhood but it's not so simple. There is not one definite moment where something in his brain snaps, but his whole life, that brought him where he was July 22th, 2011. The book is interesting and needed in it's attempt to understand but not forgive Behring Breivik, in it's clear admiration of the young people affected by the shooting and in it's contempt with how things were handled on that faithful day.
review 2: Jag tyckte inte om titeln. Jag tyckte inte om hur snabbt boken kommit och jag vågade inte läsa den. Visst känns vissa stycken lite hastigt skrivna och översättningen är inte klockren. Men det var värt läsningen. Jag fångades. Grät. Knöt min näve och förstod lite mer. Efterordet är så bra, det handlar om tillhörighet. Både tårarna och dådet. En av oss är nordens viktigaste politiska bok på länge, granskande, nykter och ärlig som den är. Åsne är så opartisk mann kan vara och lyckas visa brutaliteten, absurditeten och ledsamheten på samma gång. less
