review 1: One Foot Wrong is an engrossing and haunting journey told by Hester, who relays her childhood to the reader through a magical stream of consciousness while she is confined to the utterly distressing world of child abuse. What makes Hester’s journey impossible to put down is her inner well of strength, which brims with survival and wonder. The poetic language Sofie Laguna uses to describe Hester’s stark world is also thoroughly mesmerising. And another surprising detail, which cleverly keeps the reader turning the page, is there are only three chapters.
review 2: Ok. This book was not what I expected at all. When the review on the back said 'the darkest yet most poignant Alice in wonderland imaginable' I expected, well, Alice in wonderland. But I got mental
... more health issues and a very strange family. Granted I quite liked the uniqueness of having the narrator be the person with the problems, because I've never seen that done before, but I wasn't something I would have necessarily chosen if I had known what it was actually about. A misleading blurb and review but overall a good, intriguing, but not fantastic, read. less
