review 1: A book about someone who loves and lives for books, talking about books. But more than that - a book about loneliness, about alienation and daring to open up in a world that doesn't reflect your values. A book about vulnerability. I'm sure the style will be a turn-off for many people, but I loved it. It felt like a hug from a friend, and the librarian felt like she was reflecting some of my least favourite things about myself back at me and saying, "Hey, it's okay to feel like this."Some quotes:"I prefer the company of books. When I'm reading, I'm never alone, I have a conversation with a book. It can be very intimate. Perhaps you know this feeling yourself?""Love, for me, is something I find in books. I read a lot, it's comforting. You're never alone if you live ... moresurrounded by books.""Because I don't go around with those earphones bombarding tuneless rubbish straight into your brain. Not my cup of tea. Not at all. On the bus, I see all these zombies. One with his iPod, another on his mobile, number three fiddling with his tablet. None of these morons reads a book on the bus. Never. That would be too much effort.""When your family's abandoned you, you haven't got any friends, you think you're rubbish, worthless, nothing, books are a great help."And, as a writer, I found this the most profound:"You don't shut yourself up for ten hours a day to write if everything is hunky-dory. Writing only happens when something is wrong."I wonder what went 'wrong' to create this fabulous little book?
review 2: What a strange little book! I didn't dislike it but it was a tricky read as it was just one voice.A lady, clearly frustrated at her life, goes on a one sided rant to a person (unknown) who accidently gets locked in overnight in the library she works in. She finds him when she arrives in the morning and promptly her story begins.would I recommend? No probably not, but as it's only 9 pages, and it's not totally awful so if you have a spare couple of hours maybe give it a try. less

Very short. Read like a long essay rather than a piece of fiction. Some interesting observations.

Tbh the narrator sounded so whiny and annoying. 10/10 vexed.

Brief and intriguing, but not long enough to really engage.
