review 1: In this second book of the Gryphon series, Celeste faces demons on a daily basis. That's what happens when you are chosen to be the Conduit for the Gryphon's mystical power.The demonic forces on Earth are clamoring for control--two factions seem to be rising. One led by the Countess and the other by an unknown, though Celeste believes this leader is her former boyfriend,Alec. And, she's determined to save him. Being the Conduit, Celeste is locked in a mortal battle against the demons, and uses the super strength, speed and cunning of the Gryphon to kick butt. Lots of times she's getting her butt kicked, too. Throughout Celeste has the help of her older brother, Gabe who can morph into a giant lion to protect Celeste. Also, her younger sister, Kendall, can fly and has super... more healing powers, as does their Spirit Guide Alaina, who is dating Gabe and seems to offer a modicum of training.Celeste seems to be this otherwise unworldly girl. She has no social life, constantly wants to kill demons to assuage her anger issues, and gets tongue-tied around attractive men. Not helpful, as she's confronted by two delectable males early in the story, but nothing goes aright. Caleb steals her heart....Rowan steals he will..and Alec returns with his demonic girlfriend to warn Celeste that the end is nigh.Then, of course, there is the Glee Club from Hell, a band of demons who are sent by the Countess to destroy Celeste. Feeling as though these poor souls have the raw end of the deal, Celeste befriends them. Big mistake, but then again it seems most of the new players in this book have demonic origins.When the Countess comes, it's a winner take all struggle that leaves Celeste with a big choice--trust Caleb, or her own instincts. It was a fun creative tale. Tons of snarky asides and one-liners, which were funny at times, however, I wished for a bit more sophistication in the language. Also, the Smashwords copy I received from the author (for the purpose of a book tour review) was riddled with errors and typos. This hampered my enjoyment considerably.
review 2: Celetste is trying to to live a normal life because being the chossen one....well it sucks. But while her siblings, Kendall and Gage, are settling into their new lives Celeste is trying her hardest to adopt the hermit lifestyle. Too bad for her everyone in her life is trying to "help" break her outta her shell, and part of that is getting her to date again. Because after the Alec ficaso she has no desire to get involved with anyone else, but sometimes life has ways of throwing someone special your way even when you least expect it. But with new people comes new danger, who can she trust and who will betray her when she least expects it?Had fun learning more about the story and seeing where things could go. Definitely fell in love with Caleb and his sexy Irish brogue. Rowan and his priate swagger were fun to watch too. Seeing everyone interact and try to do what is right while having fun and cutting more world class jokes makes this an awsome addition to the series. less
