review 1: Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley!I love this story. I'm mostly familiar with the stage show, and I adore the soundtrack, but I've also developed a love for the most recent film incarnation. However, I've still never read the original novel. This manga seemed to pay homage to all three -- the novel, musical and film, and I loved it for that. The artwork was beautiful and the story flowed so smoothly. I would love to pick this up in physical format when it becomes available -- and the notes inside said that several classic novels are now being adapted to manga; I'm envisioning a section of my manga shelf being devoted to classic adaptations :)If you love manga, you'll like this. If you love Les Mis, you'll like this. I found it actually helped to explain a few things here and t... morehere (year discrepancies, etc) and it seems like a perfect meld of the most well-known versions of this story.
review 2: All the scenes I remember from the movie (since I can never remember whether I read the book...) are rendered beautifully in this manga edition. The characters seem spot on to me. I don't have much to complain about, except that it lacks the presence of the movies. It was well done, but not exceptional and without Liam Neeson as Valjean, I just can't give it anymore stars. I also had to keep it at 3 stars because the backgrounds could have been a little more detailed (it is Paris).Other than that, I can safely recommend this to any of my teens (though not as a substitute to the original novel). less
