Not too long ago, I reviewed a book called The Flight of the Silvers. You can find it here. It became one of my favorite books and I couldn’t wait to read the next in the trilogy. Well, in just one short week I have finished The Song of the Orphans. And I’m dreading waiting for the third book.
The Song of the Orphans picks up where the first book left off. The orphans – the six silvers – are with Peter trying to save the world. The government continues to come after them. And the terrifying threats of the Pellitiers loom over all of them. Eventually, they find two more so called orphans, two Golds of NYC who’s whole group was killed by Rebel and his team, people who think the orphans threaten the world with their very existence. The Golds join the Silvers, and through some difficult battles and a trying path to peace, the orphans find their way to live with the Gothams, those born on the Earth with powers.
The orphans know they need to find everyone from their world, and figure out the way to do it is through the music of their world, music that means nothing to the people of this Earth but everything to the orphans around the world. Hence the most fitting title of the book.
Of course, this is a basic summary as ever. If you read book one and love these characters like I do, then you’re in for a whirlwind of emotions. Trust me. I finished the book with tears in my eyes and a wish for book three to magically appear right now.
This book is just as fast-paced, emotionally driven as the first, maybe even more so because it’s significantly longer. Where book one was 624 pages, this one is 752. And book three is, according to the author’s website, looking to potentially be even longer than that. And I hope it is. I want so many more pages of this story, but all we get is one more book.
Believe me, if you haven’t read this series yet and you’re a science fiction fan, do yourself a favor and order book one. The world that Daniel Price has created is so intricate and thought out and incredible that it deserves to be read by as many people as possible. I cannot stop recommending these books to everyone I know. It’s obvious by the way he takes the time at the start of each chapter to describe where the setting is that he’s thought it all out and carefully crafted this world of his creation. It’s incredible. Please believe me and read this trilogy. Join me in the wait for book three, which I’ve read is to be called The War of the Givens.
