review 1: Grades 4-8Parody of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which I think equals if not surpasses the original. I've been able to recommend this to students of Diary and Horror Graphic novels alike, with nary a complaint. This isn't reinventing the graphic novel genre by any means, but it's a fairly effective dessert book after the studen't required reading. I will buy more this line for my school library collection.
review 2: I received this book for free through a grant and was curious about what age level it would be appropriate for. I would put this in a middle school library, but I don't think it would be appropriate for elementary school. Too many pictures of severed heads and blood and honestly a lot of the funny romance references from DieLite (the Twilight parody) wou
... moreld be over an elementary kids understanding. Like all parodies, this one is often only really funny if you are familiar with the original. The storylines I understood were entertaining, but a few of the sequences fell flat. This book is divided into several bite-size sections that do not follow any sort of story arc. Honestly, this parody could have been a lot better, funnier, and more biting if it had followed some sort of beginning, middle, and end sequence. The first story, Diary of Stinky Dead kid was easily the best and would probably appeal to middle grade readers. Certainly, not a must-have for any library, but will draw in reluctant readers. less
