review 1: I loved this book -- the writing is excellent, the characters and relationships are wonderful, and the adventures of the women back in London are just as (if not more) exciting as those of the men fighting Napoleon in the Peninsular War. I wanted to read this in one sitting, and I really really want there to be a sequel -- although the end is so satisfying that I can't imagine what more she could write. I just didn't want it to be over!
review 2: So I was to review this for Bookbrowse.com. I had a hard time getting into it. Typically, I enjoy historical fiction. And while I did learn or relearn a bit about Napoleon and Wellington, there were just too many storylines to follow. Even with the list of characters, I found myself struggling to remember who was
... more who, who was connected, etc. I would have enjoyed this less if it were a bit narrower in scope. less
