review 1: This was such a super fun addition to the series! The whole of Mitchell's family, mates and all, getting to spend their first Christmas together. Even though this particular story revolved around Noah and Seth, all of the others whom I've been introduced to in the previous seven books were upfront and center making this a very special installment.Keegan, Andrew, and Noah are at the mall trying to find the best Christmas present for their older brother, Mitchell, when Ravens attack trying to get Noah. They are obviously desperate since their war is never to impact humans, however the psycho Raven, Declan, who kept Noah as his toy for a year, has a six figure bounty out on his head and that's worth a lot of trouble. The fact that Andrew is desperate enough to give Keegan a g... moreun tells me everything I needed to know about how outnumbered they were. Of course, having Keegan shoot Andrew provided much needed laughter. Keegan is a menace with a gun, truly.I was very happy that the author wrote a little more about Shane in this story. I have a real soft spot for that sociopathic assassin and I'm looking forward to more of him. It did break my heart a little, though, when Mitchell had to let Andrew know that Shane was working as an assassin for the coalition because, basically, there really was no way to rehabilitate him any further than they already had. Apparently all leopard shifters are psychotic and are usually put down because they are unstable. It was hard for Andrew to hear this about someone he considered a brother. On a positive note, Cassie got engaged to the wolf alpha, Chris, which was fun. I'm not big on het romances, but I would have enjoyed a story about them because Cassie is a total hardass and I like her. This was a great story and I loved it! I especially loved all the little extras I got to see with different family members and the way the author set up the next story about Shane and Trevor. Those two were super hot together and I can't wait for their adventure. This series is so much fun!
review 2: And we’re back with the adorable Noah! ☺ This book is really more of a placeholder installment, or a lovely chance to touch base with some of our favorite characters for the holidays. It serves to set up things to come yet still has enough action to keep you interested in the here and now.Noah is still struggling with a lot of insecurities about his place with in the shifter world and more importantly within his family. He adores his mate Seth and is ecstatic to be back with this litter mates. The pieces of his soul that were missing feel like they’re finally there. Still he’s not as smart as Keegan or as good of a soldier as Andrew. The things he’s had to do in his past to survive have given him a pretty low opinion of his own worth. And when the Raven’s come round to collect him back for the douche bag who had captured him before it throws an innocent trip to the mall into utter chaos.I really enjoy the diversity in characters between these three brothers, the nerdy spaced out Keegan who can’t handle a gun to save his life, the death on wheels isolationist in Andrew, and poor Noah so insecure and struggling to find his place. He can handle a gun, but can’t fight worth beans and he feels like his love of books isn’t really worth much of anything since he never finished high school. He’s certainly not the genius Keegan is. But Noah’s all heart. He has such a good soul. He’s willing to sacrifice himself if it means the rest of his family and loved ones are safe.I loved the fact that this story makes a point to help Noah realize that his presence and skills matter to those around him. He’s not just another brother. If he wasn’t there people would notice and it would cause them pain. You finally feel like Noah’s starting to recover from his captivity and become a healthy person again. There are so many hints into the future here. Cassie’s love life takes a step forward, clearly the Raven’s haven’t given up, and Shane has a new path as well. *le sigh* Shane…Oh how I adore you! I am an absolute sucker for the bad boys and Shane is some of the best of them all. And Trevor, in the kitchen!!! SO HOT!!! Every little minute I get with Shane I cherish. I love how f’d up his thinking is. It’s twisted no doubt, but he still manages to have his own moral code and even if he doesn’t believe it himself he does care about others. I really enjoyed this installment for all that not a ton of things happen. It doesn’t move the story along that far and it’s more of an affirmation of Noah’s love for Seth and an introduction to the idea of Trevor and Shane (YES!) than it is a full story in itself. I enjoyed how it deepened the bonds between all the siblings and we got to see a more vulnerable side to Andrew as well. I do so love this family.Of course I’ll be back for more. less
