review 1: Stephanie Black writes good stories. I have enjoyed all of her books. We listen to them on audio tape as we drive around our state. This book had a lot of interesting twists, and suspects in the plot as Emily is made to feel that maybe she is losing her sanity. The ending was surprising and satisfying. I particularly enjoyed this narrator; she has a soothing, captivating voice and made each character sound different. I look forward to our next listening adventure with this author.
review 2: Somewhere between 4.5 and 5 stars. I was suspicious of the right people early on in this book, but I don’t think I get any points for figuring it out early, since I was also suspicious of pretty much everyone else in the book (really, I think the only people I never ... moresuspected were Emily’s parents, the first-graders, and Rochelle). I didn’t love the book at first, because the whole single’s ward dating drama thing isn’t my favorite (didn’t like it when I was living it, still don’t like reading about it). So if you’re like me, just hang in there—the book gets really good after the first body shows up (I hope that doesn’t sound morbid). There were a few times when I just gave up trying to figure out motives, hoping that it would all make sense in the end. And it did. This book has LDS characters and was published by an LDS publisher, but could easily be read by anyone that likes suspenseful books. less
