review 1: I really wanted to like this book. Mysticism, family relationships, mystery it sounded so interesting. However, I found the characters overwrought, stereotypical and one dimensional. I did not enjoy the time I spent with any of them. The myths were repetitive and overly long. The pace of the story dropped drastically every time another myth was told. There was a lot of potential in this book but for me it all fell apart into a disappointing mess.
review 2: By the end of the book, I was finally sold on enjoying the story, but even with 70 pages to go I felt like I was continually missing something. The story seemed like it needed a little more fleshing out...like a mystery where the chapters end with cliffhangers, but too much information was missing to really
... moreeven understand what cliff you were just left hanging on. I think the main reason for this is that the story is immersed in Jewish myth and mysticism, for which I felt like the author could have done a better job of laying a foundation. By the end of the story, however, connections are made and holes filled in enough that I felt satisfied. less

The concept of this book is quite nice, but the narrative style didn't work for me that well.
