review 1: Posey’s first-grade class is writing a story about their pets. The only problem is Posey doesn’t have a pet. Mom says she can’t have one until her little brother Danny is older. Posey isn’t happy about it! Posey One of the girls in Posey’s class tell her she should write about her stuffed giraffe, but Posey wants to write about a live animal. She goes outside after school to think. Posey is outside swinging when she hears a loud “WOOOOFF!” The new neighbors must have a dog!! “Woof, woof, WOOOOFFF!” It must be a really big dog. Then Posey remembers about the time she was a little girl playing at the park and a big dog pushed her down and stole her ice cream. She is a little afraid of dogs. The next day in class she still doesn’t know what to write about ... moreso she decides she will be brave and go meet the new neighbors and their dog. Posey creeps over to the shrubs and peaks through. She doesn’t hear a loud bark; instead she hears a soft whimper. Posey is scared to get too close to the dog but gets close enough to see his paw is stuck in the fence. She is terrified to try and help the dog but knows she can’t leave him crying. Posey gathers her courage and rescues the dog and becomes the hero. The next day, Posey has a great story to share with her class about a real live dog!
review 2: I love Princess Posey! These are great books for those in between early readers and the 9-12 age group fiction. Greene seems in touch with the voice of a 1st grade girl and she portrays Posey honestly, even when she is annoyed with her baby brother and takes away his pacifier and is then remorseful. Posey has such a wide range of emotions and that makes her a fun character to read. One of the highlights is her relationship with Gramps. less
