Princess Posey
review 1: Posey loves to wear her pink tutu that makes her feel special. When she wears it, she is Princess Posey, the Pink Princess, who can go anywhere and do anything. However, when her mother tells her that she can't wear it at school, how is she going to face the first day of first grade without it? To add to Posey's fears, her neighbors who are brothers tell her that she'll have to walk all the way down the hall by herself and that a blood-sucking monster or hungry snakes usually get them first. After dinner that evening, Posey's Gramps takes her for a ride after dinner to get ice cream and reassures her that there are no monsters or snakes at school. While Posey is selecting a Popsicle, her very own first-grade teacher, Miss Lee walks into the store. After talking with Miss Le... moree about why can't everyone wear their favorite old clothes to school, Miss Lee sends out invitations to her first graders that they can wear their favorite clothes for their parade to start off the new school year. Posey and all the other first graders arrive and are variously and happily dressed in pajamas, soccer uniforms, dinosaur slippers, tutus, and other favorites. This sweet and first in a series story will be wonderful for transitional readers (newly independent readers) especially those facing their own worries about a new stage in their lives. The illustrations are absolutely charming as well. I highly recommend this series.
review 2: Posey is nervous about starting first grade. Her mom won't walk her to her classroom; she will get dropped off in the "kiss and go" lane. She will have to walk down the long, blue hallway to her classroom by herself. She won't be able to wear her favorite pink tutu. Everything turns out ok when Posey meets her teacher and she decides on a first grade parade in your favorite clothes for the first day of school. I think this is a great beginning chapter book. Posey deals with issues that other kids definitely have to deal with. She is spunky, but acts just like a real kid. less
