review 1: I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful romance with a happy ending. It is a tale of two sisters who's family is involved in the glassmaking on the island of Murano in the 1400's. The book is written entirely in verse. It is about two sisters and the mother trying to fulfill her dying husbands wish. Daughter Maria, who has one job in the family, to marry into nobility and Giovanna, to work in the family's glass factory. Maria longs to be a glassblower herself. It is a story of how two sisters come together to ensure the happiness of the other. It is a very quick read and is appropriate for teens through adult. Dana, this is coming your way.
review 2: I am a fan of novels in verse & also loved Hemphill's title about Sylvia Plath. This one is shorter & less sophist
... moreicated but a good story about sisters in a family of glassmakers in Murano, Italy & how they are able to fulfill their dead father's wishes & still have their own dreams. An enjoyable tale based on a real girl of Venice from 1487, who was given permission to build a small furnace & became one of the few women glassmakers of her time. less

Entertaining enough... completely unrealistic/alltoowrappedup ending made the rating go down a star.
