review 1: I have had this book for quite a while. I always seemed to read something else first, but last night I decided to read it. I read it through without stopping. While it was shorter than many books, I finished it because I was enjoying it and not because it was short. There are very few books that have made me laugh out loud, but I did in a couple of spots. While it was a bit zany, like a movie that it makes a reference to (which is what made me laugh out loud), I still found it very funny thanks to the zippy remarks of Ace, the main character. I don't normally like "zany" type comedy, but if it is done with cleverness, not overdone, and includes just enough common experience, it can be quite funny. Ace says a lot of things we all probably wish we could say, and she a... morend a long-time friend involve themselves in helping to resolve a huge issue in another good friend's life in a way that isn't probable, but was so satisfying to read. I do occasionally like books where the bad guy not only gets his due, but gets it in a big, flamboyant, rock'em sock'em way. So there was a bit of living vicariously through Ace's sarcasm, caustic quips, and ill-advised antics. I enjoyed reading Diary of a Mad Fat Girl and would gladly read another of Stephanie McAfee's books.
review 2: Stephanie McAfee did a great job with this book. There were moments in the book that had me laughing so hard, and paragraphs from this book that I could not agree more with. Ace, is the main character. She is a bit overweight and yet, has total control. She doesn't let her weight define her. She has two best friends, Chloe and Lilly, and they have been friends since grade school. Like real life issues, Chloe is in a bad marriage, Lilly is keeping a huge secret and Ace is just getting frustrated. And like real life best friends, these girls go through everything you can imagine to help each other. They go so far and even rent costumes to go "under cover" into a strip club to get "the job done."Mason and Ethan Allen are two lead male characters and are just a bit too perfect to be real. This is my only issue with this hilarious novel. These two boys do more than a normal guy would for these ladies and of course, there is a happy ending for all. I wanted to rate the book lower, and not give it four stars but, I did laugh a lot while reading it. I enjoyed the story, even if it is a bit too fiction. But again, this is fiction. At least it didn't end with everyone riding off on a unicorn! So, four stars for sure. less

I personally found this book amusing, being something of a mad fat girl myself. I caution that some, specifically gentle read lovers, might find this book offensive due to language and sexually graphic scenes. I personally thought the sense of humor fresh. Janet Evanovich or Ann Charles readers, this would be a good one for you. Interesting fact. This book was self published, but sold about 100,000 copies. Needless to say, she was able to secure a publisher for her next book in the series. Enjoy ;)
