review 1: I really wanted to like this book... I thought the author did a great job developing the setting and the creepy supernatural factor. The dude's job was interesting enough. The problem was character development. Halfway through the book and I really didn't care about any of the characters and wasn't too interested in the murder mystery either. I felt like the author introduced new characters constantly without any context. Usually in mystery books you get an idea of the detective's thinking as to who they are going to talk to and why. That was completely missing from this book.
review 2: Interesting idea - that everyone suddenly has a ghost following them around 24/7 that only they can see and that has serious psychological impacts on society. The story is
... morelargely a gruesome, standard detective plot, however, and doesn't really use the interesting setup for much. The main character is pretty textbook: downtrodden detective (son of a detective) who tries to do right in a crooked world and is unappreciated for it (wife leaves him, coworkers mock him), etc. less
