Blog Tour—Little Excavator by Anna Dewdney

Most of you know from Twitter that I have a “Little,” as I like to call him in “public.” Well, for the very first time, here I am reviewing a book I requested just for him!

First of all, my boy LOVES diggers, trucks, planes, trains, and automobiles. We even have a “construction site” out behind our house, where Little loves to play with his dump trucks, tractors, cars, and yes, little excavators. His most recent finished project is a road (made of mud) that ALL of his “outside cars” travel on as they make their way across the construction site. So, of course, how would he be able to resist a book like LITTLE EXCAVATOR? Well, he couldn’t, and didn’t, and we’ve read it numerous times. The message of the story is perfect for kids his age (he starts kindergarten in the fall): it doesn’t matter what size you are, there’s always a job that’s perfect for you! Not to mention how much fun we had finding the puppy on almost every page on our fifth or sixth read through…and trust me we’ve read it since then. The rhythm of the story works well also to keep those little ears geared into the words—and the words are a perfect size for pointing as you go along too. I’ll admit I haven’t read many of Dewdney’s other books, but if you have a kiddo interested in trucks—especially construction trucks—LITTLE EXCAVATOR is perfect for them! ABOUT LITTLE EXCAVATOR
What could possibly be as appealing as Anna Dewdney’s llamas? Anna Dewdney’s trucks! The Big Rigs are working hard at the construction site when Little Excavator rolls up, eager to help. But Little Excavator isn’t big enough to CHUG CHUG CHUG! like the Dump Truck as it loads dirt to lug or MOUND MOUND MOUND! like the ‘Dozer as it pushes up the ground. Little Excavator wants to smooth out bumps and dig up dirt, but he is just too small. As Big Rigs around him WORK WORK WORK! they finally find a job that no other machine can do…except for Little Excavator! Preorder Little Excavator HERE! ABOUT ANNA DEWDNEY: Anna Dewdney was a teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of reading aloud to children. She continually honed her skills as an artist and writer and published her first Llama Llama book in 2005. Her passion for creating extended to home and garden and she lovingly restored an 18th century farmhouse in southern Vermont. She wrote, painted, gardened, and lived there with her partner, Reed, her two daughters, two wirehaired pointing griffons, and one bulldog. Anna passed away in 2016, but her spirit will live on in her books.
