review 1: I really enjoyed this book and quite frankly ( no pun intended- see book to understand) I kinda fell in love with Jeremiah Rice, the reanimated frozen man. As I started reading this book I immediately thought of the movie Ice Man starring Timothy Hutton. (loved that movie). Even though both deal with a frozen man who comes back to life, this story is about a man from the early 1900's. The story is alternately told through the experiences of the Frozen Man, a Doctor, a reporter, and the head of the Project. There is humor, intrigue, a little romance, soul searching, and heartache. At times there were things that seemed far-fetched, but all in all this was a really good read with a sadness to the ending. I especially loved the idea of the BUTTON...guess you'll have to read t... morehe book to find out what I mean.
review 2: I picked this book up in an airport book shop as I had recently finished an excellent book (Empty Mansions) during my holiday. This is a story of the reanimation of a man frozen for about 100 years in hard ice and, to tell the truth, although the story line sounded intriguing it took quite a few pages for me to get into it and not want to add this one to my "never finished" bookshelf. In a nutshell, this book took 432 pages to tell me all the things wrong with today's society by contrasting Jeremiah Rice's time period with ours. The story was told by a few of the characters so at first it was a bit difficult to follow, but then the book did settle into an entertaining storyline. The big hook in this book was the relationship between Dr. Kate Philo and Jeremiah - will they? Won't they? less
