review 1: Continuing on the trend of -nothing-is-sacred-copyright-expired re-mangling of the classics; this book is the prequel to Pride and Prejudice and zombies, introducing you to the tale of how zombies first came to Longborn. It's not exactly the start of the zombie troubles, as people have been off fighting long before this, but it is the Bennett girls' introduction to the undead and to their ku fung training or whatever the hell that was meant to be. There's the usual zombie beheadings, seige and final stand that you'd expect of zombie fare. Because the follow on book came out first, and far more importantly because everyone knows what happens in Pride and Prejudice, it's easy enough to work out who is going to survive, and which couples are not going to make it.It's meant to... more be a comedy horror and a bit of a send up, so it works ok on that respect. Personally I find the whole kung fu element a bit stupid and tedious, but I suppose this had to be included as it is in the second book. Surprisingly for a zombie book, there are all rather dull stretches, especially in the first half of the book. It's comedy and it's light reading so you've got to take it for what it is. But I said it with the Pride and Prejudice one, and I'll say it with this. I think it could have been SO much better if it had been done seriously. The voice of Jane Austen really isn't here. In the other one, because the guy had the original text to pilfer, he could lean heavily on that. With this, it's relying on imagination, but the dialogue and so forth really isn't convincing Austen - probably doesn't matter so much as it's meant to be a comedy. But my main thing is that if this had been the start of the zombie apocalypse proper, it would have been fascinating to experience this in Regency England and to see how society would or wouldn't have coped with it. This is a time when the social hierarchy essentially made some people lesser humans; women weren't considered capable of much; and many subjects simply weren't spoken of. There were many unmentionables. How on earth would this world have reacted to a zombie stumbling through a churchyard and eating someone? Now that's a book I'd really love to read.
review 2: I have recently been reading "Pride And Prejudice And Zombies Dawn Of The Dreadfuls" By Steve Hockensmith. Some of the characters in this story are Mr.Ford and Mr.Bennet and Mrs.Bennet,Elizabeth. This book takes place in a funeral home. One of the major conflict is when One of the person dies which his name is not mentioned in the story. The reason why i choose this book way because i thought It was interesting just by the title and the cover. I also thought it was pretty interesting because there neighbor wakes up from the dead and becomes a "zombie". The climax in the story was where everything happen which was at the funeral of Mr.Bennet neighbor woke up from the dead. this book is about Mr.Bennet and her 5 daughters attend to go to a funeral in which they see the body wake up from the dead and try to attack the congregation. During this event or story you could call it Lizbeth had to learn to protect themselves from the "zombies". Some of the conflicts is when Elizabeth had to defend herself against the zombies. One of my favorite parts is when when Elizabeth bring back the sword to try to stab or cut the zombie again and the zombie reaches out and was able to grab the sword. My opinion on this book is that its a interesting book, surprising book because its pretty crazy how the guy wake up from the dead so he's pretty much called a zombie and how people go crazy when they saw that this happen to the guy and its surprising how they had to learn to protect themselves from these unknown creatures and all that zombie stuff they but its also mean or unthinkable for the people who went to his funeral because some of those people wanted to walk out of there but they felt bad and thought it would be disrespectful for them to do that during the middle of the funeral. I recommend people to read this, well only the people who like and think all the zombie stuff is interesting and also people who are into these type of books, and think they will find this book delightful and time killer. less

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" was made fun and original by incorporating the work of Jane Austen into a book about zombies. It was how Hockensmith turned Austen into a zombie story that made it so good. Without Jane Austen's story, this book feels like just a chance to make some money. Here is a prequel that lacks the fun of the original story. Anyone who had read "Pride and Prejudice" and liked zombie stories would love the original story. But in this book there is no feel for Jane Austen as the book contains the characters without her story or language. That isn't to say that this book is dreadful. It just lacks the uniqueness of the original. Perhaps no prequel or sequel could have the uniqueness of the original so perhaps I'm being unfair but it seems without Austen to give him a plot, Hockensmith just doesn't know where to go. Anyway, this book just feels rather slight (and yes, I'll admit, fun in a way) but it feels far short of that first book and really unnecessary. Too bad Austen didn't write a prequel to "Pride and Prejudice" or Hockensmith might have been able to pull this off.

Very funny though it obviously doesn't beat the original but its a great twist to Austen's PP. This is a prequel to PP and zombies tracing the Bennet girls' steps to becoming the warriors and sheds more light on their father's background and their mother's love history which I was glad they did. Even if it is AU (alternate universe) it was very frustrating to hear them call each other mr. Bennet or mrs. Bennet. Here, they are given first names and in the Austen spirit, the author is true to their characters (and their daughters) bybhaving them go at each other every five minutes which makes it even more funny. Some familiar characters appear at the end. If you're an Austen fan who has a taste for the zombie genre, this is the book for you.
