review 1: After finishing Ivy + Bean, I was at a loss to find something at the same reading level: a long narrative arc in series format, but with pictures on just about every page. Enter Daisy Dawson. The format is a perfect match, and it is an easy read along too. I don't think my little one understood the jokes, but to be fair, they were pretty lame jokes. There's also absolutely no possibility to claim that anyone is too scared by the story to go to bed; it's already more G rated than a Disney movie. That can be great (yes!!!! No climbing into bed with me at 3 am!) or not so great (wow is this story vanilla!).
review 2: Yay... a new Ramona/Clementine/Gooney Bird Greene -type character for me to love! A young daydreamer rescues a butterfly from a spider web... the... moren finds herself suddenly able to understand animal speech! This is one in a series... 4th grade reading level, but less than 10,000 words... and many illustrations... So, this is a good choice for good readers in the early grades, I think. Looking forward to reading more in the series! less
