review 1: The second novel in the Devil's Wake zombie series, this one focuses on a surviving town with a dark secret. Generally I feel like zombie stories need to go somewhere deeper, but it always frustrates me when that somewhere deeper is some kind of super zombie. As if zombies weren't enough. This installment didn't have as much energy as the first one, probably because it takes place in a refuge so the danger isn't quite as heightened.
review 2: A great continuation of the first book (Devil's Wake), Domino Falls takes the story of Kendra, Terry, Piranha, Sonia and the rest of their crew in an unexpectedly twisted direction involving a cult and the true origin of the zombie plague. The characters get a little more fleshed out and fully realized and the action is bu... moreilt up to nicely. The book is not as scary in the "am I going to get bit" manner of the first book butI found Domino Falls actually more suspenseful than Devil's Wake. Perhaps knowing at some level that all the main characters would survive the first book and that the second book would for certain kill someone off (read it if you wnat to know who!) played a role in that but there is no doubt that the writing skills of Steven Barnes and Tananarive Due is the main reason. Really looking forward to the last of the planned trilogy and to the short film that Barnes and Due are making of the root short story for the series.
