review 1: It's a bit like Galaxy Quest crossed with Space Balls. Lots of silly gags and digs at the original Star Trek. The humour ranges from slapstick, through references to star trek and all the way over to nerd humour. Much like Scalzi's RedShirts it is a quick read and easily forgotten. Some laugh out loud moments and clever jokes, but mostly slapstick. Almost like Erikson is trying to shake the bleakness of the Mallazan Book of the Fallen out of his system :-)
review 2: When I think of Steven Erikson,I think of the blood & gore of his Malazan series. Some of his scenes of violence and mayhem are the best in the world of fantasy. But I would never say "humor" is Steven Erikson strong point. So what to make of Steven Erikson's new comedic take on the "Idea of Star Tr
... moreek" and the nature of men. This is one of those books that needs a half star rating, as I liked it and some parts I really loved, but not all of it. Some parts worked , others not so much. I think those who really enjoyed the Star Trek original series will appreciate the homage Erikson pays. less

A nice try, and who doesn't love a Star Trek piss-take, but some of the humour fell flat for me.
