review 1: The character Detective Cheyenne Warren expresses my reasons for never joining the "feminist movement" "In one of the tragic ironies of the 20th Century, feminists never fought for women to become more feminine. Instead of celebrating what it means to be a woman, to be feminine, to be an empowered female, they fought for women to act and be treated more like men. That's why I call them masculinists. Yes masculinists. Because in their fight for more rights, they ended up devaluing what it means to be a woman and emulating the very things they criticized most in men----imperialism, identity confusion, militaristic propagandism, dehumanizing competition, careerism. Women should be extended the same dignity, opportunity and respect as men but shouldn't be treated in an i... moredentical way: equality without uniformity. I want to be treated like a woman, not a pale imitation of a man. Women should never be ashamed to be feminine. Strength comes from conviction, not from acting like a man. Being feminine doesn't mean you are weak, it just means you are proud to be a woman. There is another section that speaks of the primitive duality of man in the words of Dr. Jekyll. The incongruities of the human condition within us all.James's books are always more than "thrillers" they are "thinkers"
review 2: Solid book as all the previous ones from Steven James. He doesnt seem to disappoint whenever I am in need of a thriller/mystery book. This book provided the same quality as the previous ones with believable characters and one of my favorites being Tessa. The story was interesting all the way through, had me guessing left and right, but honestly I dont think he should have brought a certain character back. I wont spoil it but those who have read it will know. There were two killers in this one, and though one of them becomes given about 2/3 into the book the other one I would have never guessed. I will eventually get The Queen when I decide to take a break from the fantasy reads that I am doing right now. In conclusion, good book, lots of suspense and if you are a fan of the other three, pick this one up as well. 4/5 stars. less
