review 1: Wow. What a nice surprise. Simon is predictably sweet but what really won me over right away is that Ares actually appreciates him.Sweet emotion in this one. Sure, everyone else needs to be judgmental and annoying to make the plot work, but the protagonists suffer in a very sweet way.It’s also kind of funny that in this book Ares is the one being kept from pursuing the person he loves by that person’s brother. Payback’s a… wolf.“Unlike in the animal world, mates were not given to them by fate.” Again with that. It made me laugh this time. I hope by the next volume someone has pointed out to the author how silly that statement is.This volume actually made me squee and laugh at the same time at roughly midpoint.And lo and behold, this is an interesting story. Sur... moree, a lot of it is predictable, but who cares. I can buy that the characters can’t figure it out, so it works. And, oh my god, it’s funny even when matters are tense for our guys. Simon’s wonderful.A lot of the developments are coming out of nowhere. At least they don’t contradict anything. Or if they did I failed to notice which is just as well.So yeah, this was actually really great. Lucky!That’s the thing with this author. On the occasion that it works… it really works. For me, anyway.
review 2: Way too simple of a plot and several editing errors. I also felt uncomfortable at times as to how Simon was portrayed. If he had an intellectual disability, that should have been explored further with better understanding and support. Yeah, I know, it's Stormy Glenn but lately she is becoming very hit and miss with me. I like her simplified "you're my mate and you're mine" plots but lately they have been way too simple without much thought it seems and way too full of plot holes and dropped story lines. less
