review 1: This was a silly book. But it had a point; or three. Whilst I was reading it I thought it was daft, but when I'd finished it, I wasn't so sure. Three days on, and I'm still thinking it over... I wanted to kill Poppy. I wanted to tell Hoe not to be so silly. I was really upset about his parents. I still am. I felt guilty when ordering bracelets from ebay for 1p from China with free postage. How can this be? And the tart in the shed. Well she wasn't a tart. He was the tart... the selfish twat. Everything serves him right. Getting rid of all your furniture and painting the room white. And who would care if I went to bed for a year? Who would look after me? I know the answers. I'm one lucky woman.Yep Sue Townsend. This is a BRILLIANT BOOK

... moretish thing, but I really don't get the "laughed until I cried" reviews. I read the book. It is well-written, though I think the author's life is more interesting. I didn't know her story until I finished the book, and then thought--perhaps a bit autobiographical?? I wish I had known her story first; it would have given me more insight as I read, but Ms. Townsend's bio is at the back of the book. My recommendation--read it first!I was ready, from the reviews, to read a "glorious, laugh-out loud" book, but instead it was a book full of human misery, deceit, and adultery, which I never find pleasant. I blame the reviews more than the book. What kind of people would laugh at insanity? Sadomasochists perhaps. less

Disappointed, considering the title was what attracted me.Too long and poor ending, weak.
