review 1: I can't say that I learned much from this book but it was still inspiring. Basically when you are eating your feelings you have three choices, 1. get fat, 2. distraction, or 3. mindful awareness. This book takes care of the second two giving ideas to distract yourself and ways to think about your relationship with food and how to change that. This was an easy read and would be a good book to own if you have had a life long struggle with food.The author suggests journaling, reframing (choose your thoughts and how you see things), finding humor, making a bucket list and breathing exercises among the 50 ways to soothe yourself.The three things I found most helpful are:1. count on your senses: one, name one scent. two, name two sounds you hear, three, name three things your... more body is feeling, four name four colors you see right now and five, name five things in the room. I think this would work well with breathing as a distraction.2. Looking on the bright side. remember a time and place you felt relaxed and soothed. try to recreate those feelings physically.3. Find a soothing object, like a bear or a worry rock.
review 2: I took a lot of notes from this book. I liked it as a quick read and thought that it was well organized. There are some new techniques I am eager to try, as well as some that I already use regularly. I suppose I will truly know how helpful this book is after I have time to implement the lessons learned. I think this is a good read for someone that needs advice on shutting off life to focus on your healthy eating. less
