review 1: The practical suggestions and insightful ideas in this book have been really helpful to me. I've been trying to re-negotiate my relationship with food and this author obviously has some solid experience in this area because she offers some great ideas for self-soothing. I appreciate that she presents an idea and then illustrates several different ways to apply it. I also found that reading this book helped me to focus on myself in a more non-judgemental way which is always nice :).
review 2: A good self-help book that emphasizes emotional eating and ways to overcome it. One of the best features is that most of the ideas are about mindfulness. Personally, I think adding other band-aids to a situation (like a lot of the distractions the book talks about) do
... moren't address the problem of why you look to food for comfort. Most of "50 Ways to Soothe Yourself Without Food" are going directly to the source of the problem and fixing them inside your head. I liked that a lot. After talking about ways to overcome eating in your head the book goes into using distractions or friends to keep you from eating. They aren't all necessarily bad ideas (some of them are actually really good, knitting, music etc.) but I wouldn't suggest engaging in another possibly addicting behavior. Eventually you would want to get to a point where you don't need something physical to soothe you. Overall, not a bad book. I'd definitely recommend it to someone who has an eating disorder like bulimia or binge eating. Also it's still a quick read for anyone else struggling with any addicting behaviors and I think a lot of people could (even without a life-effecting problem) learn better ways to deal with stress rather than extraneous activities or things. less

It was okay. Didn't suggest anything I hadn't done or heard of before.
