review 1: Loved this book. This is about 4 women friends who meet up twice a week to walk their dogs at the park. Josie, Ginger, Roxanne & Bea all swear off men. But Josie writes an obit for Mrs Needleman who tells Josie she needs to make a list of all the qualities she wants in a man. So as she is waiting in line to get into the new dog grooming place, she makes the list. Little does she know that the man who grooms her dog, is the one. So now she is hiding from her friends that she is dating. Rick Rousseau is the CEO of the Celestial Palace Pet Superstores. He also has demons chasing him. The demon is Bennett Cummings. He plans to kill Rick just like he always believed that Rick killed his daughter.Only he kidnaps Josie to get to Rick. Josie ends up talking to Bennett. Asking to s... moreee pictures of his daughter. In the end Bennett decides he is going to take Josie home. She was innocent in this situation only the FBI come crashing through before he could do it. Josie is now avoiding Rick. She feels he has lied to her. Mrs Needleman shows up to tell her she needs to find the truth. When she confronts Rick, she finds out he didn't lie to her. He didn't know Margot was pregnant. She told him it was his. Rick couldn't believe it. He had no idea. When he asked Josie for the time frame, he said the child was not his. He was in jail when she got pregnant. After hearing everything, she decides to marry him. At the wedding Mrs. Needleman is back to match making for the other women. I look forward to see who she has in mind.
review 2: Susan Donovan has always been a weird hit or miss for me. When she's good, there is nobody better. Public Displays of Affection and Knock Me Off My Feet remain two of my favorite romance novels of all time. And once in a while, she'll just go flat. Kept Woman was like that for me. But I picked up The Night She Got Lucky, the second in the dog walker series, with renewed hope. The Night She Got Lucky blew me away. Donovan was back on! If I'd picked up Ain't Too Proud To Beg first, I'm afraid I'd never read another Susan Donovan novel again. There was no cliche left behind in this book, the "Big Misunderstanding" being the most egregious. But what really bothered me was the inconsistent characterization. One minute Josie loves Rick, the next she is convinced he lied to her.The worst thing about this book was what it didn't contain. Where was Susan Donovan's classic sense of humor? The set up was ripe: a man who hadn't had sex in seven years. She didn't touch it. Didn't find anything about it, didn't even remark on it. And while those good books I mentioned (The Night She Got Lucky, Knock Me Off My Feet, etc) had scorching hot sex, this one was... not. Very flat. There was an awful lot of telling and not showing. I had to force myself to finish it. I have the third one, Not That Kind Of Girl, in my TBR pile and it just got pushed back a ways. I can't handle another disappointing Susan Donovan book. less

Anyone who loves their dogs can relate to these three women and their dogs. It's a good read.

I loved this book! It had believeable and funny characters. And of course; a great ending!
