Penryn & the End of Days
review 1: Compared to the brilliant first book of this series, the second book didn't knock my socks off as I had expected. The first half of the book was too boring in my opinion. We follow Penryn and her family as they are part of Obi's resistance group but that's about it. Nothing really happens. After the action filled first part, this was a let down and I struggled to remain interested. I did love the parts though where Raffe's sword showed her memories of him, it gave a little inside to this mysterious Archangel.Luckily though it gets better once Raffe and Penryn are reunited. It was somehow comical how the story lost its magic while they were separated and picked it up once we had our two stars back together. I especially loved their relationship. Their close, neither one adm... moreits or openly says it but they both know that something has changed to their relationship and simply being together again, being close seems enough. Once these two were back together the story ended far too quickly and now I'm left here with nothing but the knowledge that I have to wait until next year to be able to continue.... I could cry!!!
review 2: I really wanted to like this one as much as the first book but I couldn't. The first book, Angelfall, was truly amazing. The post angel apocalypse world was riveting and the action was fast paced and slightly gruesome. Mixed together is the perfect amount of romance and crazy mothers. This book, however, however felt like a filler. Not a lot happens that necessarily adds anything to the series. Maybe I'm just a bit bias because my favourite angel didn't really come through till the end of the book. Penryn is on the hunt for her sister again, and this time she's accompanied by Clara and crazy mum. What I loved so much about the first book and Penryn's quest to find her sister was the relationship she had with Raffe. In this book, the author is really only reliant on the journey itself and what happens etc. I've read quite a few YA books to get the general gist of relationships and romances etc that will occur. I know the formula; read it on repeat for quite some years, yet this relationship between Penryn and Raffe was refreshing and I was madly rooting for them. Miss Ee was steady in building their relationship. Generally, most authors would jump from the hate immediately into the love when it comes to a love hate relationship. We know that Raffe and Penryn have some feelings for each other, however these feelings don't drive their motives as opposed to others YA books. The characters drive themselves, this book literally proves that Penryn is fine by herself and that she doesn't need Raffe but she does want him. It's a slow simmering romance that keep you on your toes. I will admit that I've forgotten half of the terminology that comes through in this world. I'm terrible at these things but still the book was enjoyable enough. I really hope the author will really pick it up with her last book to the series. This book felt like too much of a filler, I hope the last book serves a better purpose because this series is really good. less
