review 1: Enjoyed book but not as much as some of Vreeland's other books. Not sure why; perhaps it was too wordy? A lot of interesting characters in Clara's life, not the least being Louis C. Tiffany who apparently had a problematic personal life along with his genius in the art world. Did enjoy the "second character" of learning about turn of the century New York City. This was a time of the building of the flat iron building and, I think, the first NYE celebration of Times Square was around 1908.
review 2: LOVED this book... I'm a Vreeland fan already and this book wasa wonderful portrayal about the woman who was very likely the artist behind most of the Tiffany lamps in the world. Of course, I immediately wanted a Tiffany lamp after reading it and when visiting ... moreNew York, I had to see some of the sights discussed. I say this to illustrate how the book sucks you in. Great writing. Great story. Great history. Definitely recommend. less
