review 1: This is the second of Vreeland's books that I've read and they are not quick reads but I really enjoy them. I feel like she write's beautifully and touches on aspects of life that I can relate to even though this book takes place in France during World War II. The only downside is that I wish I could SEE the art that she uses in her books but since most of it is "made up" that's not really possible.
review 2: Talk about a "Staycation" . This book takes you to Paris and to Provence without leaving your chair. Lisette is a young woman from the streets of Paris who loves absolutely everything that surrounds her. She and loving husband Andre are beginning their lives in the art world working in galleries which surround them with the the works they revere. They ar... moree called to move to Provence to be with a dying Grandfather and be taken away from all they know and love. No indoor plumbing, no art, a real rural, country life awaits them yet Lisette with find so much more than she ever expected. It is such a wonderful story by Susan Vreeland who also wrote one of my favorite books Clara and Mr Tiffany. Both books are must reads! less
