review 1: what a horrible book!! it started out an intriguing mystery with wolf omens and then turned into a fashion review of queen elizabeth's court. *yawn* i know that was her 'profession' but COME ON!! all i could think the entire book was "kat is an asshole." "everyone is an asshole." don't even get me started on the ending!i wish they'd change the summary so people aren't duped into reading this book. it should say:a girl's foray into queen elizabeth's court and the expensive clothes she finds there.
review 2: Reminded me a lot of Sharon Shinn's 'The Safekeeper's Secret' in that everyone carried a secret but there's also a plot and (some) action in this one. The first six chapters were very interesting and absorbing, with Grace's secrets and the fact that no one se... moreems to love Kat's deaf sister Anna. But once Kat and Anna start their journey to London, things quickly slowed down. Kat meets a lot of characters in Queen Elizabeth's court but they all pass by in a blur, with no development among any of them- probably because Kat spends around 25% of the book flirting with men that don't even like her. Characters that could have become interesting are passed over in favor of Kat's friendship with the selfish, spoiled Queen Elizabeth. The book would have been better if the author had split the narration between Kat and Anna with Kat seeing all the glamour of the court and Anna witnessing its dark underbelly. Final Word: Not a terrible read, but not terribly wonderful either. less
