review 1: To be honest, I wish this series ended with The Bar Code Rebellion. This installment almost seems like Suzanne Weyn is trying to breathe more life into this series. Did it work out? Yes and no. For once, I still don't think the general public would trust Global-1 after the Bar Code Scandal, no matter how much they try to deny it. And besides, the fashion the last book ended was in a way that tied up most loose ends. So yes, I was somewhat reluctant to read this book after the complete ending last time. This book has done some world building though. It does add to what Decode was doing later on, and Grace Morrow is an acceptable protagonist. She's Dr. Harriman's daughter? It did have an explanation, but well, it's kind of sudden, and didn't have the impact I thought it would... more. This book is a step down from the previous ones, mainly due to the issues I stated in the first paragraph.
review 2: First, I must confess I picked this up not realizing it was the 3rd book. It read just fine as a stand alone, but I am wondering if it might have seemed less disjointed to me, if I had read the previous books.I still don't understand the juxtaposition of science fiction dystopia and prophetic spirituality in this book. It may be that I need to read the other stories to feel the connection. This would be a good dystopia lite for a reader who wants the genre but not a 400 page novel. less
