review 1: Honestly I really did want this story to succeed in my book but even after giving it a chance I still can't like it a whole lot. The inside of the cover had me thrilled for the story but I don't think it actually explained well enough. It put emphasis on how Charlotte doesn't notice the issue her friend is going through but its doesn't in the actual story. I mean sure you see issues but it sounds more serious than it actually is and then after all the story building the friend even forgets her? I think there was to much background story and not enough to get to the point. Sure we know a women is stalking Charlotte but there seems to be more extra storyline in the book than there needs to be. The end felt pushed super fast because nearly 98% of the book was dedicated to the... more story behind the main character and didn't push the story further until the very end and even then it felt super rushed. I remember thinking, "Seriously this is the showdown time and everything I have been waiting for to see what happens and I only have a few pages left?" This didn't thrill me at all. I did love the twist at the end and the obvious love between Harlin and Charlotte but overall this book was a big let down.
review 2: I’ll admit, I bought this book because of the cover porn aspect. I, as a rule, try to avoid angel books, mostly because they tend to be poorly written, clichéd, and just pretty bad. I’m looking at you, Halo series. You were the worst. So I didn’t even really realize this was an angel book until I was a couple of pages in.And surprises abound, I was enjoying this book. I liked the mystery aspect of this girl trying to figure out what was going on with her. I liked that she felt compelled to help people. I liked her as a character. I mean, what I didn’t like was her douche bag boyfriend. The kind of boyfriend who’s grabby and demanding and the second his girlfriend isn’t telling him all her secrets, he wants to break up with her. If he’d been omitted from the book, I’d have loved the first 2/3 of it.What I hated, and this sours me to say it, was the last third of the book. The last third, especially the ending, is absolutely rubbish. Call my Captain Kirk, but I don’t’ believe in no-win situations. I don’t believe in a destiny that can’t be altered, changed or reworked. I don’t buy for a second that this girl, our protagonist, has to essentially end her mortal life, with no choice in the matter at all, because that’s just the way thigns are.I’m calling it now, the ending is bullshit and really upset me. I’m all for characters dying a noble death if it suits them or the plot well. I’m all about saving the day. But I’m not about free will being smashed into a million pieces and people being forced to effectively end their lives because it’s divine expectation. So if you pretend like this book doesn’t’ have a back third, it’s pretty damn good, but the end just soils everything and drags the ending way down, and it has me annoyed now that I bought another book from this author in the same vein without finishing this one first. I don’t know what I was thinking, and I hope I don’t pay the price. less
