review 1: Detour is an uncomplicated boy meets boy romance. Sometimes it is nice to read a book that isn't weighted down with angst or complications. Robert a college professor who is running late for dinner, runs a red light and has a flat. He meets Miguel a police officer who not only changes the flat but gives him a warning about the red light.Robert and Miguel both come from loving accepting families. It is nice to read a book where parents and siblings love and support without conditions. Also both men are "out" at work and it isn't an issue. As a bonus this book also has great supporting secondary characters.Robert and Miguel both know what they want and it is each other. They move into together and start building a life. I love yous are exchanged and other than a smal... morel blip toward the end when one of the characters is injured their live together moves along at a heart warming pace. This book doesn't pack the emotional punch of some books in this genre, their isn't a mystery to solve, or an antagonist to hate - no bad guys. However, this book is like a warm pair of pajamas and cup of hot tea at the end of a long day. It is simple, comforting and enjoyable. The reader doesn't have to over think it, just relax and read.
review 2: Une histoire légère, c'est "gentillet", rapide à lire, pas mémorable certes mais l'on passe un bon moment. Les personnages sont attachants et l'on a envie de suivre les aventures des personnages secondaires dans les autres livres. Par contre la faiblesse de ce livre réside dans les dialogues, plutôt pauvres et il y a de trop nombreuses répétitions (par exemple les prénoms Robert et Miguel sont parfois utilisés à outrance dans une même page). Mais bon je ne vais pas bouder mon plaisir et je vais donc continuer à lire la série "Something in Common". less
