Lady Emily
review 1: This is the first of the Lady Emily Mysteries that I've read. Set in Victorian England, the series is set around Lady Emily and her husband, Colin, amateur sleuths. It's told in an upstairs/downstairs manner, though having not read the previous books I'm not sure if that's the usual or just for this one. The mystery surrounds the death of the Hargreaves' neighbor, Lord Montagu, who stumbles into their home to fall dead on the carpet. As the story unfolds he is proven to b e not quite the upstanding citizen he might have appeared (you slowly become more and more okay with his demise). It was a bit slow for me at first but then really picked up and I couldn't put it down. Lady Emily's mother both made me laugh and simultaneously want to strangle her (a sentiment I feel Emily... more shares). I will definitely be looking into reading the previous books.
review 2: Received this book on a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you very much. I enjoyed reading it as it was a book in the Lady Emily series that has been on my list for a long time. It is however number eight in the series and I was lamenting the fact that I was coming in rather late in the "story" without any knowledge of the characters and their back stories. I was able to sort of figure things out in that regard by the middle of the book. Like all Victorian murder mysteries (and I am a huge fan), the plot was slow and meandering with it's clus and links. It was a gentle, easy read and it was fun to anticipate and decipher the events and indulge in the Victoriana. A quiet get-away. less

This really is turning out to be a most entertaining series. I hope to start at the beginning soon.

Very good story with some unexpected twists. I have no idea why I don't read more mysteries.
