review 1: 3.5 stars. Unlike other readers, I was not disillusioned by Emily's character. The changes to her voice and approach are the evolution of her personal tragedies and feelings of vulnerability. I was disappointed in Colin's departure from a more evolved male. It is understandable that he has fallen victim to many of the feelings of vulnerability but it is difficult to suffer through his patriarchal turn.
review 2: I liked this one more than the previous in the series but I agree with a lot of the reviews I've read... Emily is getting annoying with her damsel In distress combined with self pity and desire to prove she's equal to the task. I loved seeing Sebastian and Cecile again. I also liked the ghost story twist of this book which gave the mystery a litt... morele originality. But the rest of the story left some questions unanswered and felt a little rushed. Overall though I still enjoy the series and will continue to read the lady Emily books. less
