review 1: The book was great, I loved the characters, I just wasn't happy with the way Will's story unfolded. I expected some violence, maybe a chase, or some confrontation, and nothing of the sort happened. Not that I wanted that sort if thing, but the book led us to believe we would have issues and see this abuser in actual form versus just in a retelling of her past. That is where I have an issue with this story. Things were tied up too nearly too easily, and it wasn't realistic. Will's personality change at the end was quite abrupt and unexpected, as well. But, I still enjoyed the book and look forward to the next.
review 2: HOME TO STAY by Terri Osburn is the third book in the Anchor Island contemporary romance series. Similar to the 1990's "Friends" sitcom, but whe... morere instead of dating, the group of friends are all settling down, getting married and starting families, this is a series that is sure to attract romance readers who enjoy a good amount of friendship inter-relationships in their reads. Given that a large portion of the story revolves around couples that have been previously introduced in the prior books, it is advisable, although not absolutely necessary, to read this series in order.It seems like everyone in Anchor Island, a small island off the coast of North Carolina (that doesn't even have cell phone service!), is settling down and finding their lifemates, except for Willow Parsons and Randy Navarro. Willow is the the bartender at the Island's bar, Dempsey's, and Randy owns the Island's gym and Anchor Adventures, which provides water sports for tourists.After moving to the Island just one year ago, Willow has made it her mission to make friends, but avoid finding a boyfriend. A disastrous prior relationship that left her scarred for life makes it virtually impossible for her to ever be able to settle down in one place long enough to make any long-lasting connection with a man.The "love bug" seems to be in the air in Anchor Island, however, and her friends seem intent on setting Willow up with Randy, her best friend's brother. Randy's large muscles, however, trigger too many past memories, so she avoids him. When an emergency affecting one of their mutual friends brings them together, however, Willow and Randy soon become aware of their physical attraction. Willow decides to make an exception, as long as Randy can agree to a secret, a "for today only" friends with benefits arrangement. Randy tacitly agrees, even as he sets forth to change Willow's mind. Meanwhile, Willow's past is an ever looming potential danger that threatens to uproot her at any moment. Can there possibly be an HEA in the future for this couple?This book was missing a certain something to make it really stand out for me. The suspense, for example, is relatively mild as you pretty much know that the heroine is running from something just from the description. Additionally, I felt like with so much of the book devoted to the inter-relationship of the friends, the romance was somewhat slow to develop. Perhaps, if I had read the prior books in the series, the friends' portion of the story would have held more interest for me. All in all, what I enjoyed the most about HOME TO STAY was its special message: home is where the heart is. If you are looking for a friend-intensive, small town romance, then HOME TO STAY may well be a perfect fit for your next read.Source: Review written by me and originally published in The Romance Reviews. less
