review 1: 4.5starsFinally! A character that has been discussed in each previous installment is given her own entry! Author Julia Wildthorn has convinced her friend Maria to pose as her boss so that Julia can be included with the movie crew that will be filming at Argent Castle in Scotland. Julia needs to get over her severe case of writers block and to retrieve a box that was hidden when her family owned the property many years ago. On their way to the cottage they've rented while working in Scotland, Maria and Julia are run off the road. Julia then learns Maria was warned to stay away and not to bring Julia on this trip. They soon meet Laird Ian MacNeill, current owner of Argent Castle, who is immediately smitten with Julia. The feeling is definitely mutual though both Julia and I... morean try to fight the attraction. This read was a little hard to get into for me. It started quite slow though the characters were written well and the additional threads held promise for a very good story. Somehow the pacing seemed a bit off for my taste. I also didn't care for the thread of secret box though the plot device served the story quite well. The villain of the piece was thin and mostly one dimensional but served his purpose. Overall the read really was good despite my picked nits. The secondary characters, especially the brothers, were full of personality and I wanted to know more about them right away. The storyline was multilayered and although I didn't care for one of the threads as a whole I enjoyed the mystery piece of it. There were also several other threads to enjoy (romance, filming, Julia's writing process, the brothers, etc). While not an origin story, this read carried the air of an origin story by putting a well known character in a new place and introducing additional packs. A cameo linked the previous entries with no additional explanations. I'm still on board with this series.
review 2: this book wasnt so great! there was a heck of a lot of unfinished buisness...like what happened to the movie? what happened with her family? what about maria? this woman really is not a great friend because frequently through out the book she would just leave her friend. she didnt even go to say hi to her b/c she wanted to spend time with her new mate. WTF? even if i got a new mate or whatever i would still take time away from him to say goodbye to my BEST FRIEND WHO WAS LEAVING THE COUNTRY AND WAS UNSURE IF I WOULD EVER SEE HER AGAIN! like come on! less
