review 1: Rafe insists that the marriage between Clio and his brother, Piers, go forth as planned...no matter that the engagement has lasted an unholy 8 years! Such utter devotion to big brother? Umm...there's some of that, certainly, but with Piers back in residence (you'll understand), Rafe can renounce his role at the helm of his family's estate and resume his true calling as a prizefighter. OMG, OMG, Tessa Dare is back!!! I enjoy all her books, but Say Yes to the Marquess stuns and reminds the world that she's sensational! The perfect beginning to 2015!But he'd made his own life, earned his own title-not "lord", but "champion". As soon as Piers returned to England and married, he would be free to fight again and get that title back. If Clio called off the wedding...? ... more His globe-wandering brother might turn around and disappear for another eight years.Clio Whitmore, cruelly called Miss "Wait-More" behind her back, has other ideas. The betrothal was struck when she was a child. Yes, she was willing, primed even, to become Piers' wife, but his training as a diplomat overseas demanded her patience. Until she wanted, deserved, more. Now if only she can get Rafe, the gorgeous rake she's pined for, the man who's invaded her fantasies for too many years...and, oh yeah, Piers' brother, to sign off on dissolution papers...she can become her own woman. Talk about a clash of interests! And a whole lot of swoon-inducing moments...Rafe plans on dazzling Clio, "his most persistent and personal distraction" with wedding preparations to ready her for Piers' imminent return. Even if it makes him desperate beyond measure, Rafe is going to woo Clio in Piers' stead. Yeah...can't wait to see how that turns out! Bloody brilliant, in case you misunderstand! :D Clio and Rafe have had a longer, more solid relationship than either realizes. It's the quality stuff borne of mutual resiliency and passion. The kind of foundation on which to build HEA upon...if only they were free. But never mind that impossible, life-affirming dream! Rafe has to stay the course, hone his self-control, get Clio to focus...even if it kills him."Let's say I agree to this plan. I allow you to stay for a week. I keep an open mind about marriage. You promise to keep an open mind about me. If at the end of the week, I still wish to break the engagement...what then? Will you sign the dissolution papers? The unrelenting desire, the intensifying attraction, the first kiss of Clio's life at the hands (lips) of Rafe, well, they will make you want to forge the damned papers yourself! Tessa Dare wrote an irresistible and compelling pair. The warring desires reveal insight into their pasts and it's only because they trust each other so implicitly do they share such honesty about Piers and other lingering haunts. These are good, salt of the earth people! And then...oh God...he kissed her.Piers kissed "his" bride, right in front of everyone, and there wasn't a damned thing Rafe could do about it. Except inwardly howl and bleed.I know you're dying to find out how the hell Rafe will control himself. The "in between" I've left out was quite deliberate -- I will not encroach on its/your pleasure. I also know you're clicking off our site and rushing to Amazon now...no insult taken. Thank you for believing me...for believing Clio is meant for so much more...
review 2: This book had its moments. Rafe and Clio were cute together. Clio is a bit on the plain side, personality wise. Rafe was hilarious to me. His bumbling charming side was funny to read. He does all this romantic things to Clio in the name of his brother when it is really his feelings on the line. I wanted Clio to match his charms but no. She was just a person. She isn't out of the ordinary. I think she could be supplanted by any character but I could overlook it. The story follows Clio asking Rafe for his signature to release her from the marriage contract. She had been waiting eight years for a marriage to the point that her reputation is the bride that was never married. She is seen as an unworthy bride since Piers stayed away for so long. In reality, Piers was working as an agent for the crown. He led a dangerous life and wanted stability before he married her. She didn't know that. All she knew was that he wouldn't come fetch her. So, she sought Rafe, Piers' brother who had power of attorney to put it plainly. Rafe refused because he wanted everything just as Piers left it. He was a caretaker of his life, borne out of guilt. He thought he was responsible with their father's death with his unconventional life. He took responsibility and was serious with keeping everything intact. Except, Clio wanted change. She wanted something of her life. She doesn't want a husband who doesn't think much of her. She made a deal with Rafe where he will sign the paper after she seriously considered continuing the marriage plans. What ended up happening is Rafe organizing the wedding and dazzling her with flowers and dresses. She saw through it but it wasn't the things that mattered but the intention. Piers wasn't the one putting the effort, it was Rafe. She wanted to matter and she mattered to Rafe. Rafe, for his part, was reluctantly in love with her. Both people don't think much of themselves but they thought the other person was just perfect. The story was a bit off for me. By that, I mean it lack something. I'm usually charmed to high heavens by Tessa Dare's books but I wasn't carried away this time. However, the little moments won me over. It is those things such as the cakes, Rafe singing her praises to heaven and not being able to conceive why anyone would think Clio was less than perfect and all the while proclaiming he isn't in love with her. Or the way Piers said, "Clio. Wait." Those little moments are peppered all over the books and they were really the heart of the book. less
