review 1: I found this book really disappointing, mostly because I found Isabel borderline insufferable. For all her so-called angelic goodness, she was completely selfish and very self-centered. She was a know-it-all and self-righteous and I spent half the book wanting to give her a good shake. Every time she started nagging Toby to do these things that she wanted without thinking about him at all? I went a little nuts. She was also sort of hopelessly naive, and I didn't understand that at all. How can she have been present for a birth and actually know things about it and still know so little when it came to Toby? Her "turnaround" at the end was so rushed that it was less character growth and more revelation. Maybe that fits with real life sometimes, but it's unsatisfying for a re... moreader. Then there's Toby. I kind of liked Toby in this book. He certainly had the character growth I thought that Isabel was missing. But. I did not understand how he fell in love with her at all, and that's because I just didn't see it. It was like one page he's out to get revenge on her brother, then he's in love with her on the next. It didn't make any sense to me. Plus...he was lying to Isabel the whole time. Even though I kind of hated her, that's pretty much the definition of not ok, and that was frustrating. Especially because it played right into her puffing herself up all the time.I did enjoy seeing more of Gray and Sophia because I loved them and they continued to be awesome in this book. However, the extra romance that was added in, as well as the birth scene, didn't add much for me and felt sort of like filler pages.I guess I was just expecting a lot more from this book because of how much I liked the two predecessors in this series. This plot just felt sort of half-hearted and rushed and the characters were missing that certain spark, both as individuals and as a couple.
review 2: For some reason, I had trouble connecting with Isabel and Toby. I felt that she was a bit too demanding with her views and that he was willing to fall in love too easily. I actually found myself more interested in the side romance of Miss Osborne and Joss. I felt the attraction and tension between them, and while the book started out wonderfully, with Toby teaching Isabel the steps in the dance, I got a bit bored the further their relationship went. However, as always, it was nice to see it all end up as it should :) less
