review 1: I guessed the ending of this book within the first chapter. It was quite obvious what was going on in Aria Rose's life. Aria herself wasn't even a great heroine. She was whiny and annoying, and took everything for granted. I was very disappointed when I finished this book, as it had seemed so interesting when I bought it. Whether it was because of poor writing, lack of time or simply too much foreshadowing, it just wasn't a very satisfying read.

Ho amato la struttura della Manhattan del futuro, i livelli inferiori sommersi dall'acqua, i mezzi di trasporto futuristici e le più classiche gondole che scivolano nei canali silenziosi; così come la struttura sociale, classista e discriminatoria, dipinta dallo scrittore, che ha saputo ben impostare e fondere elementi tipici del romanzo distopico a quelli del paranormal.Detto questo, cominciano i dolori, o quanto meno quegli aspetti del romanzo che non mi hanno appieno convinto, a partire dalla nostra protagonista: Aria Rose. Il romanzo comincia con la consapevolezza della giovane di aver perso un lasso di memoria relativamente recente e con esso i ricordi legati alla sua travagliata storia d'amore con Thomas Foster, figlio dell'eterna famiglia politicamente rivale dei Rose. Già dall'inizio del libro capiamo però che le cose non sono come i genitori di Aria cercano di farle credere, ed il lettore intuisce facilmente, soprattutto dopo l'apparizione di un certo personaggio, quella che sembra essere la verità sulla perdita di memoria della protagonista. Il tutto avrebbe potuto essere gestito con un pizzico di mistero in più, in modo da coinvolgere appieno il lettore. Non contribuisce di certo che il fatto che il personaggio di Aria mi abbia lasciato piuttosto indifferente: certi suoi atteggiamenti mi sono parsi tropo immaturi e superficiali, e non vi ho trovato quella straordinarietà e presenza di spirito che mi sarei invece aspettata in una protagonista così promettente. Quasi tutti i personaggi sono piatti, privi di spessore, poco interessanti. Anche Hunter, il misterioso mystic che salva la protagonista, risulta grossolanamente stereotipato e poco misterioso. Theo Lawrence avrebbe potuto dedicarsi di più al carattere dei suoi protagonisti, che perdersi in continue descrizioni sugli abiti (dalle linee morbide e alla moda) di ogni membro del genere femminile.Il romanzo ha decisamente un ritmo lento al suo inizio, per poi precedere più speditamente verso la fine. La parte finale di Mystic City è decisamente quella più convincente e scorrevole, con intense scene di azione, ben architettate e fuse con la storia. L'inizio, ripeto, è assolutamente prevedibile, ed è davvero frustrante vedere quanto tempo ci impieghi Aria per capire anche l'ovvio. Non mi sento però di bocciare in toto questo libro, ed anzi, credo possa essere una lettura interessante per gli amanti del genere distopico. This book was really easy to read, which I liked. The idea of the book and the world were also attractive, but overal this book annoyed me oh so much. A lot of parts felt badly written, they just weren't believable and some things weren't logical. The thing that annoyed me most was that almost all of the characters were weird and just plain stupid, especially Aria. The things that were most obvious from the beginnig took her the whole book to find out! I just wanted her to be real so that I could slap some sense into her. I don't know, maybe she was supposed to act this way because she was spoiled but I didn't get that feeling. This heroine was weak and her love interest was really weird too. And from this review I might seem like a really judgey person but I don't ever remember writing a review this bad, I usually like most books, and even when I don't it's usually because of the genre, not the writing. And although I don't recommend this book to anyone who liked e.g. The Hunger Games (the contrast is just that big and idk why this book's recommended to THG fans), I think this book would do for someone looking for a light, easy read.

3.5 starsLa storia poteva essere meravigliosa, ma fin da subito si inizia a sospettare qualcosa e ovviamente ci si domanda quale diavolo di problema abbia la protagonista. Protagonista che sembra fare di tutto per farsi scoprire. E' il primo volume di una saga, quindi magari molte cose verranno spiegate successivamente, ma si sente molto la mancanza di una precisazione su molte caratteristiche di questa NY alternativa.
