review 1: This book is a good continuation to the series, though it has the same problems as the first part. Good news is that it's an easy read and fluent, which is always great. The plot works out well and rolls with a well balanced pace. Perhaps this part is a bit too gloomy compared to the first, but I'm happy the stupid romantic stuff is now mostly absent. The problems I was talking about? It's quite evident that the writer is a guy. Every time Aria meets a guy in one way or the other, her first thought is always about looks. How ripe the muscles are underneath the tight shirt blaa blaa. This is so stereotypical that it's not even funny. Like do guys always think about boobs when they meet girls or women? It wouldn't surprise me though. Basically the highlight is always a littl... moree peculiar one, which shows Lawrence lets his presumptions guide him when writing. In most cases the gender doesn't define what and how people do stuff.Well, Aria's character actually grows, but she is still somewhat stupid and naive. Half of the book she is guided by love alone and it feels lacking and dumb. It doesn't help that Lawrence wrote Aria as a Mary Sue that everyone seems to love and/or protect. The ending I do like and how she actually broke it off with Hunter. Turk just seems to be the savior and that's his persona and nothing else. Everyone else has just that one trait and it makes them quite boring. Also, death is something Lawrence cannot make to work, since there are lots of people dying in these books, but no one seems to care about them except occasionally. Hunter and others don't want people to die, but kill them either way. There are many contradictions alongside this. I do hope that there's more development and such in the third part, since I'm not so convinced yet. Surely this isn't bad per se, but mundane - it needs a lift to get better.
review 2: 'Toxic Heart' was even better than the first- though Aria persisted in being a character who had to rely on other's help for the majority of the book, the plot twist at the end made the story jump up a star! And what a development in Hunter's character, as well as Turk's (I'm so excited about the direction THAT is headed!) After Aria's rise to power and confidence at the end, I can't wait to read about how the rest of her story turns out. less
