review 1: Maybe this loses something in the translation. It felt really flat and characters seemed to speak more in speeches than sentences. It could have been a short story or novella since the point generally seemed to be, "Suicide is bad." There was often a reverse "It's a Wonderful Life" vibe where it seemed like Jeremy was being shown that everyone would have been better off without him, which is at odds with the suicide is bad message.Not recommended.
review 2: Quick read! I read it in 2 days. I really wish I knew French because I would have loved to have read it in the original language. I personally did not like the translation. ... morey intriguing. Be prepared for a strong religious thread running throughout the book. Other reviewers complained about the author's perception of those who attempt suicide (and those who commit suicide.) But I did not take it as an attack on anyone, as his character was already angry at God. I see this is a book that people will either love or hate. I think I would have loved it if it weren't for the translation but. :-) less
