review 1: I read the English version, obviously. It contained many Norwegian names that made it hard for me to keep the straight at times. The use of many place names and streets in Oslo are meaningless to me and became a bit cumbersome. Skip the prologue, it almost turned me off of the book. The attraction of the male investigator to the female, and his internal dialogue about it, lent nothing to the storyline and was therefore annoying. I suppose a subplot, but didn't need it or was undeveloped. Like another reviewer, I felt there was a prequel to this book due to the main character's constant dwelling on his sons death. It made me check to see if this was indeed the first book. Eventually you read enough info on the loss of his son to put it all together. All the criticis... morem aside, HOWEVER, the plot thickened and became a page turner with a slight twist, but I predicted it, so it only gets 3 stars.
review 2: I enjoyed this novel partly because it is based in Norway, where I have spent some time, and it brings me back to those times. The plot itself is very diverting, with some intriguing twists, and a slightly different tone than your average crime novel. Though I must admit there were some gaps for me in how the two main storylines were interwoven; I won't go into detail here to prevent any spoilers. Overall, however, I definitely enjoyed the book, and am looking forward to reading the sequel, Pierced! less

New author to me but I will look for more, a good read with a twist in last 30 pages.
