review 1: A profoundly amazing tome that is a hallmark work not just in economic scholarship but also about the conveyance of rigorous ideas backed up by data. A lot of scientific writings try to justifiably dumb down the source material to be more approachable but here the author chooses to simply present the data in it's most equitable form. This book not only highlights the historical trajectory of wealth inequality but also in doing so redefines the very exegesis of capital. The idea that wealth distribution should be redefined is often talked about in other circles, owing to factors such as automation based unemployment and growing inequality but this author is perhaps the first trailblazer to unequivocally cement this idea with concrete facts. If you only read one book in the ... moreentire year, make sure it's this one.
review 2: Given all that has been written about the book and the way in which all the coverage forces one to take sides, let me say that I'm on Piketty's side. I thought he was very measured in his assessment, and that he let the data speak. He made his points deliberately without hyperbole. And, by the end, I was very angry with the world (as, I am sure, he would wish me to be).I don't find his prescriptions to be particularly helpful--because I don't see them as politically possible. But that's not complaint enough for me to deny Piketty all five stars. Finally, I will add that this is an engaging book, especially for an economics tome--but really, anyone who is interested in social issues, politics, history is bound to find it reasonably accessible and absolutely worth your time. less

A long slog which needed tightening up - but a book many people should read before they vote.

Hij mag wel wat hardere conclusies trekken. Zoals de echte Marx gedaan zou hebben!
