A Whole New Crowd
review 1: The book has only been published on-line and could benefit from a lot of editing. There were a ton of typos, missing words and sentences that didn't make much sense but the real interesting thing is that once you look past all that there is an amazingly written story. There are so many things going on with this book - plot twists, screwed-up grey characters, completely unexpected blind-sides, and enough mind-games to keep a chess-master/criminal master-mind busy for a lifetime. It was a long read and was incredibly intense the entire way through. It feels like I've just finished a marathon on the emotional roller-coaster, or that I've finally surfaced after holding my breath underwater through most of the story. So, after all that let me tell you what I actually thought ab... moreout the story itself. It was completely different to everything I was expecting. This story brings many of the characters from A Whole New Crowd back on the scene but focuses on the story of Jace and Maya - the newly introduced street-smart runaway - and is set five years after the events of A Whole New Crowd. The story was unpredictable and definitely did not go the direction I was expecting at the end, but sadly I can't really comment more on that without giving things away. I will say that I loved Maya's character. She has been through a lot and has become an expert liar and manipulator - so much so that she even lies to herself. Despite all she has been through she still has a heart, although she doesn't always care. She is strong and incredibly smart and is the only person in the world that could go up against Jace and hold her own. Jace was a bit of a surprise to me in this story. I knew he was an incredibly intelligent and dangerous character but I never realized the full extent of his character in A Whole New Crowd because that story was told from Taryn's perspective and she never knew the real him. I'll just say that it was nice to finally see some of what made him tick. I enjoyed getting to know both Jace and Maya, and their relationship developed as perfectly as was possible between two naturally distrustful and manipulative people. The ending of the story was sad but I was glad that most this had been resolved. I realise the author left a lot open and I know a third book is probably going to be written at some stage. I'd be interested in reading it but to be honest I'm not sure if continuing this story is really for me. I really liked A Whole New Crowd, but this book just took everything to such a different level and I'm not sure if it is really my cup of tea. Despite that I can't deny that it is a great book. If you like the author's writing you should give it a read but be warned - it will put you through the wringer and take a long time to get through!
review 2: I REALLY like her!!! At first I was cautious, and wasn't really sure, but now? Her conversations, how she thinks, She's exactly as i'd want to be/think. I wish I could be like her and think like her.... Anyway, she's is one hell of an mc so faromg. 1291! And I'm only a quarter of the way through!!! Most books would be around the climax by now, and yet this is STILL building up!!! I LOVE IT :)This story is just one MASSIVE as hell puzzle, and I honestly have to conciously THINK to put all the pieces together... an even then. Gods, this is amazing.Jace is.... ugh. I love him, yes, but he's so hard to figure out!!! And all those secrets are killing me. The only thing keeping me going is the knowledge, the idea that I MIGHT just find out if I keep reading. And of course there's my impatience, and the slightest temptation to just skip, find out and then come back and continue reading... but this book is to intricately woven to understand anyway... Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!! I'm nearing the END!!! I don't want this to end!! I never want this to end... *mourning*I love this book! It's so amazing, nothing I expect to happen happens [except for Maya and Jace getting together and that was kind of a given] and wow. THis book has legit just... blown my mind. I have spent about three days [not WHOLE days] just devouring it all, and trying to understand it, and omg, I don't want it to end!!! It's like I've been reading a massive series that's just way too close ot ending, ugh. Everything is just so amazing, and you would not believe how hard my heart was pounding during the chase... like that has never happened as much with a book [granted, I haven't read many chase scenes] but wow. And it feels like everything moves so... fast. And so I go back past the words I just read assuming that I must have accidentally skipped something, but I never have... I am definitely re-reading this soon. That was amazing :) Just finished it! I have to say, the whole other worldy stuff was a surprise and tbh, quite sudden too, but... yeah. I would have liked to see how it'd have ended without it, but all goods :D It was strange, because it wasn't really a theme before, not even in the previous book so...I loved how even though it was about two 'new' characters, it still continously over and over again linked back to the first book :D And the plot from the first is still important to the second. The story was amazing. A MASSIVE jumble of stories and plots surrounded by one massive world, and it was so... wow.Again, I loved the characters, that was probably the best part, and I also loved how all those other characters didn't take from the book, they actually added to the story in a way.LOVED the panther scene :DOh god, Jace! Be mine! You're so freaking perfect, yet so full of flaws... you're beautiful. [and hot of course]It was very nicely rounded off, but also left a massive hole. I hope there's another book for the little sister! :D less
