review 1: I read the English version of this book: Look Who's Back. This story is a real easy read, it's well written and nothing felt left out of the translation. The premise is simple, Adolf Hitler wakes up in 2012 and becomes a TV comedian - hilarity ensues. The start of this book is quite entertaining, everything about the modern world is new to Hitler and his taboo thoughts and outbursts do get a laugh from time to time. There is an interesting cultural aspect to the book too, Hitler is seeing his Germany, in particular his Berlin as it is today and plucking apart the things that are wrong with modern day Germany and her ideology. It becomes a more whimsical critique of a country by one of the most evil men to have ever existed and what's worse is sometimes you find yourself agree... moreing with him.But I really felt this novel was too long and based on a "what if" premise that was pushed too far. What if Hitler came back - okay I can deal with that. What if he was picked up by a talent scout? What if people thought he was a method actor? What if his TV show took off? And unfortunately this makes the overall plot strained and the characters acting out of plot sake rather than being totally believable - because I'm sorry people wouldn't just accept that he was a method actor 24 hours a day - it would be really annoying.Overall, although it was an amusing read, once I'd finished the book I did feel somewhat frustrated by the lack of character development from Hitler and the supporting characters. The plot didn't really go anywhere and the ending didn't feel complete. This is a good book for anyone interested in the subject, but it could be a slog for anyone looking for something more than a whimsical rant about modern Germany.
review 2: Naja.
