review 1: Alright, Yvette's Haven is Book 4 in Tina Folsom's Scanguards Vampires but I think that some of the previous books are better. Having said that, this was a pretty good read and I'm pretty sure that this can be read as a stand alone.Yvette has had a small part in all of the previous books but not to worry because whatever was discovered about her in the previous books, we find out all over again in this book so no one is left behind. Mainly, we learned that she is a total badass and that she is capable of very deep feelings. Yvette is a great character because she is both of these things at the same time. Unfortunately, I think she leans A LITTLE more towards the badass side which makes her a little less feminine. But it's a tough balance to maintain, especially when the he... moreroine is a vampire bodyguard who is REALLY good at her job. So I couldn't be too mad about it. On the other hand, Yvette was sort of obsessed with having a baby. Whether or not she could have one now, why she didn't have one when she was human, being with a man and if he'd want a baby with her-but-then-would-find-out-that-she-couldn't-have-kids-and-would-he-want-to-be-with-her-of-course-he-wouldn't-because-she's-less-of-a-woman-than-every-other-woman-are-you-tired-yet-because-I-sure-am... The whole baby thing just took me right out of the book and it made me like the book a lot less.Haven is the hero and he was pretty okay. I mean, a hero is supposed to be manly and strong and romantic and occasionally even heroic. But it's tough for Haven to be all of those things when he's a human and Yvette is a vampiric bodyguard. What the hell can Haven do that's going to be impressive to Yvette? Because he definitely did not impress me. He's a big dude and he's handsome and strong and brave (but so is Yvette - except for the being a dude part). It was also difficult for me to see him as more than a bratty kid, which is how he was introduced at the start of the book. But he wasn't all bad though. Halfway through the book, he starts defending Yvette and actually starting to protect her (as much as he can). So I think that Haven grew on me as book went along and by the end, I liked him and I wasn't constantly thinking about how weak he must have been.Yvette and Haven are pretty hot together. They were hot for each other from the first time they met but I'm not sure how much chemistry they had at the beginning. They have lots of chemistry by the end though. I had one minor complaint about their love story. Most of the book involves a kidnapping, which lasts somewhere between 12-36 hours. It's during the kidnapping that Yvette and Haven make their connection and start falling for each other. So, I felt like they fell in love overnight - and they kind of did. But it was good to read so what do I care how long it really took?!Believe it or not, I actually liked this book! Certainly, I didn't love it but it was pretty hot and entertaining. There's obviously plenty of fighting and other action scenes too. Yvette has a bit of a rough history - heartbreak wise. And Haven is a bit damaged too. So they are something of a perfect match and it was fun to watch them go from hating to liking each other. I'd recommend this for readers who like paranormal romance involving vampires. Not the best book in this series but it's definitely worth reading!
review 2: Yvette's past memories haunt her about her failure as a wife and to become a mother. Yvette foolishly hopes that Maya can reverse female vampires infertility. Maya tells Yvette there is no reason why female vampire can't get pregnant. Haven Montgomery has vast hatred of vampires ever since his mother's death and kidnapping of his baby sister twenty years ago. Haven and his younger brother Wesley have searched for their sister Katie. Haven is tasked with kidnapping a young woman being guarded by a vampire. Little did Haven realize his world is about to be turned upside down in more ways than even he can count. Yvette is charged with guarding a young actress only to be knocked out by witchcraft leaves her angry and frustrated. Haven is double crossed and learns that everything he thought about vampires isn't entirely true either. Will Haven and Wesley find their sister? Who double crossed Haven? Will Yvette admit her attraction to Haven? Your answers await you in Yvette's Haven.I was anxious to read Yvette's story. I'm definitely not disappointed in her story at all. Haven is the right balance for Yvette. Yvette's actions show that she's capable of compassion and lust. Haven's determination to find his sister is admirable. I'm definitely looking forward to my next adventure in Scansguard Vampires Series. less
