review 1: Bought this book on impulse and totally judged it by its beautiful cover! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably 4 and a half stars but felt generous! Two story lines, one in the present and one in the 14th century, with similar themes and shared imagery. Loved the role of the wind, and the gardens as well as the characters and how they developed. Just a really great read with some depth to it, which gives it a meaningful feel.
review 2: It took me awhile to read this book. I had many interruptions (just every day family life!) while reading it. However, I kept reading as I was interested in what was happening with the characters. The book has two story lines - one beginning in the 1340's and the other in 2007. I would get engrossed with one character and read
... more, read, read, then all of the sudden it was time to switch to the other story line. But that was fine - the next story line would unfold and I would shift gears to that character/time. The connections between the story lines/characters were revealed at the end, though you had hints along the way. At times I felt like I was (or at least wishing I was!) in Italy. less
